Everything people ask before they start.
You don't have to work any of this out on your own. These are the questions people ask most, and we're always one message away!
Getting it built
-
Who builds it?
A carpenter or contractor local to you. We design it and draw it, they build and install it, and that split is why it works: you get a studio that only does kids' rooms, and a builder who already knows your city, your trades and your prices. We're on WhatsApp through the support period for anything that comes up.
-
Do I need a carpenter?
For Essentials, usually not. It's furniture you can order and put together, though depending on what goes into the room you might still want an installer for the things that fix to a wall. For Signature and Premium, yes, because those include pieces made for your room, so a carpenter or contractor installs and builds them. If you'd rather not find or manage one yourself, product sourcing and contractor management are add ons, and we'll quote them for your project.
-
Do I need a designer too?
No, that's us. You're paying for the design once, and what's left is someone to build it. If you want anything custom, that build cost is there whether we're involved or not.
-
Does anyone check the measurements on site?
Yes. Whoever builds it must confirm the final measurements on site before they cut anything, the way they would on any job. We're not on site, so the person holding the tape measure is the one who confirms it fits.
-
Will my carpenter understand the drawings?
Yes. Millwork drawings, technical specifications and electrical diagrams are trade documents, and they come with Signature and Premium. If your carpenter has a CNC machine, we provide those files too. It's ready for them to work from.
The room itself
-
What about safety?
It's planned as we draw rather than checked at the end. We simulate falls, plan where a mattress or foam needs to go, and check that a child of their actual size fits the space the way we've drawn it. The build itself is the responsibility of whoever builds it: the fixings, the materials and the load.
-
Is my room too small?
Almost certainly not. Small spaces can be magical, and they're some of our favourite spaces to design! Send us the measurements and we'll make it happen.
-
How do I measure the room?
We send you a guide that walks you through it, and we'll help with anything that isn't obvious. If you already have plans from an architect, send those instead.
-
Can you really design a room you've never seen?
Yes, and we do it for families all over the world. The measurements are what make it work, which is why we're careful about that step. Every drawing after it comes from those numbers.
Our promise
We won't move forward until you're happy with where we are. Every stage gets your okay before we build on it. And when the design is done, we don't disappear. When your builder has a question, there's someone to ask.
What you get
-
What's a 2D wall elevation?
It's a drawing of one wall, seen straight on, showing everything that sits on that wall and the height it sits at. A floor plan looks down and tells you where things go. An elevation looks at the wall and tells you how high. That's how a carpenter knows the shelf goes at 1.1m rather than roughly a metre. Every package includes them.
-
What's in a shopping list?
Every piece in the room, with the supplier and the price on each line, so you can buy it yourself. We check that each piece can actually be bought where you live, and if something can't, we tell you and find an alternative.
-
What isn't included in the price?
The furniture, the accessories and the building work. You're paying for the design: the concept, the renders, the floor plan, the wall elevations and the shopping list. We'll also tell you where it's worth spending and where it isn't.
Working with us
-
What if I don't speak English?
We speak English, Spanish and Portuguese fluently. If yours is another language, we'll usually do a short call to meet properly and then work in writing, which is easier for everyone.
-
Do you work in my country?
We work worldwide. Recent projects have been in Dubai, Singapore, Nigeria, South Africa, Spain, Italy, France, London and the United States.
-
How do we talk to each other?
WhatsApp and email, and a live video call to kick the project off. On Premium the revisions happen on video calls too. No portals and no ticket numbers. While your project is running we answer within two business days.
-
What if I don't like it?
You tell us and we change it. One, two or three rounds of revisions, depending on your package. By the time you see the first draft we've had your form, your inspiration images and a conversation, so revisions are usually small rather than starting over. We don't take things personally, so give us your honest input.
-
What happens once the design is finished?
Everything is delivered, and we don't disappear afterwards. Essentials comes with 15 days of support after delivery, Signature 30 and Premium 60. When your builder has a question, there's someone to ask.
Didn't find it?
Ask us. Tell us about the room and we'll answer straight. If we're not the right fit, we'll say so.
